Preventative Health for Native American Seniors...
Wisdom Steps invites Tribal Elders to participate in activities that build their health. Wisdom Steps began in Minnesota in 1999. Wisdom Steps is a partnership among the eleven Minnesota Indian tribes, three urban areas (Minneapolis/St. Paul, Duluth and Bemidji) and the Minnesota Board on Aging.
Wisdom Steps encourages elders to take simple steps toward better health. Activities such as participating in health screenings, attending a health education class, or enjoying a healthy living activity are promoted. Elders learn that the path to health is easy and can be walked by visiting with a physician and setting a personal health goal like losing weight or stopping smoking.

| Latest News: The new Wisdom Steps Discount Card will be available early August or sooner! Click here for more details. Wisdom Steps 10th Anniversary Celebration and "Honor our Elders" Conference was a wonderful event and we hosted over 400 American Indian elders from all around Minnesota. The event was held June 15-17, 2010 at the Black Bear Resort and Casino. We honored the founding board members who helped start Wisdom Steps 10 years ago, our current board members and advisory committee members and Wisdom Steps partners and participating tribes. It was wonderful. We started the event with a Traditional Pow-wow and Feast on Tuesday night, held workshops and an Awards Dinner on Wednesday, conducted a Wisdom Steps Walk and heard a wonderful motivational keynote speaker, Billy Mills who concluded our event on Thursday. We want to thank the Fond-du-Lac Tribe and FDL Wisdom Steps for being such a wonderful host for our elders! Chi-Miigwech. Click Here to view pictures |
